So I had quite the inner debate with myself about the boys' birthday parties. I really don't want to throw friend parties every year, so technically this should be an off year, but with us moving away I just couldn't not throw one for them. So instead of doing two separate parties for Gavin in September & then again for Liam in October, I decided to do a joint birthday party! It was going to be great because they pretty much have the same friends anyways so this was going to save me a lot of time. Now, just to come up with a theme that they would both like. I brainstormed forever & then Doug actually gave me the idea because they both really like the PBS show Wild Kratts. It couldn't have been more perfect. The Wild Kratts are brothers just like Gavin & Liam. One has blonde hair & the other has brown just like my boys. Oh this was meant to be. Haha!
I had a lot of fun planning & prepping for the big day. And even though there isn't a ton of actual Wild Kratt themed party supplies, it's basically a safari so it was super easy to find stuff. My favorite thing I did for the party was make the Creature Power Suits. Thankfully the dollar store had black t-shirts so it made it very reasonable to do. And no sewing was involved. My kind of project. :)
The Creature Power Discs to put on their suits when they morph into their creatures. We had: butterfly, cheetah, bass, polar bear & bat.
DECORATIONS:
The party favor bags.
I had this all hanging above the table where they would be eating. It turned out super cute!
The table.
It really was great because we just cut palms from the trees in our yard to bring in & add to the ambiance. It really gave the perfect touch to help it feel like a jungle.
The FOOD TABLE:
The TORTUGA cake!
the GAMES:
While everyone was arriving we had on an episode of the Wild Kratts for them to watch & familiarize themselves with it. Most didn't need to, but it was a nice filler anyhow.
The each got their Creature Power Suits on & were ready to go!
They had fun looking through all their discs to see what animals we would morph into.
The BAT:
I started this game off by asking them what bats like to eat. They all knew the answer.... BUGS!
Since there were smaller kids & big kids we divided into groups to make it more fair. They lined up holding their bug collector containers & were ready to hunt for bugs like bats.
Liam using his tweezers to collect his bugs.
Love how dainty she is picking up the bug. Gotta love girls!
The POLAR BEAR:
I explained to them how polar bears live in the Arctic & when the ice breaks it creates ice flows. So as polar bears they need to hop from one ice flow to another.
The BASS:
This was by far the kids' favorite game. It was the funnest to watch too. At first they thought they were going to be the ones to fish, but after I clarified that fish don't fish, they get fished they were dying to play. We decided to spice it up & have two go at the same time to see who could get the gummy worm off the hook first. Hilarious I tell you!
The BUTTERFLY:
We used toilet paper to wrap each kid in like they were a caterpillar. And then when they were ready they burst out like pretty little butterfly's. :)
The CHEETAH:
For this game I tucked a cheetah pipe cleaner into the edge of their pants. And they played Cheetah Tag. They had to run around & try to collect as many tails as they could. It was fun! We did this one a few times too.
And slithering like snakes for the heck of it. Haha!
Group shot of all the kiddos!
Opening presents is always the best. It makes me laugh how all the onlookers just get closer & closer & closer to get the perfect view. :-)
These two boys sure got hooked up!
Singing happy birthday & eating cake to finish off a fun filled morning with friends.

Oh, my gosh. What an awesome birthday party! Are you for hire?
What a lot of work but it is so cool. You probably enjoy throwing such parties because the ones I did (which were few and far between) were not all that great. Your boys are so lucky!!!!
