Gavin Douglas turns 5!

My oh my it has been a fast five years since this big guy was born. I know it's been said a million times but I really can remember that day like it was yesterday. Every birth a mother gives is special & memorable, but I have to be honest, I think the bearing of your first born will always hold a little bit more special in my heart. Is that awful for me to say? I became a mother when Gavin was born & we have been experiencing a LOT of firsts together over these past five years. We struggle a lot to understand one another, but the bond & deep love we both have for each other is unbreakable. I love this kid to pieces! And I love birthdays so let the celebrating begin...

The birthday boy just waking up.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GAVIN!
Don't you just love Liam in the video? Haha! He kills me.

Opening a few packages from G'ma Shaw before school.
His first official set of Legos. Bah!
He built this whole thing by himself before we left for school. I guess he really is old enough to have these things. I just hate stepping on them. Haha!

I got to bring in a birthday treat to Gavin's class at school. He made a very specific request that he wanted donuts. "But not the little round ones Mom, the big ones!". This kid shares his love for donuts just like  his mama!

They get to stand front & center while everyone sings Happy Birthday to them. I was dying over how awkward it was. You could tell he LOVED the attention, but was acting pretty shy about it. He seems to be a good mix of his ol mom & dad. :) (Dad loves attention, Mom is the shy one)

We didn't have one complaint for the classmates either. Well actually that's false. One kid said he didn't like donuts. But then when I started passing them out, he corrected himself with, "Oh ya I think I do like them." Haha! Well duh, who doesn't like a donut?

After nap/quiet time we went to play at the YAA Museum. Dad ended up getting off early & came to meet us there. We had fun playing as a family celebrating our birthday boy.

Gavin requested his dinner of: mashed potatoes, carrots, pigs n a blanket & drumsticks. Whatever the birthday boy wants I guess.

I didn't make his cake for his actual birthday because I was planning on doing one for his party. So he picked this one out from the store. But after taking a few bites, he told me that it wasn't very good & that he likes my cakes way better. Cute boy knows how to win points with mom. Haha! And he was right. It was pretty dry.
After cake & ice cream he opened up the rest of his presents. He was way pumped that he actually got what he asked for...

ROCK EM, SOCK EM ROBOTS!

I'd say we have one happy 5 year old in our house. It was a great day celebrating our sweet boy. And it's only the beginning. Lots more parties to come. :)

A few days after Gavin's birthday we had a little pool party with his classmates from last year. These 9 kids seriously are such good friends. When they get out of school (this year) they immediately find each other in the courtyard to play. So cute!

I hopped in the pool & did a few pool games with the kiddos. They were loving it! I had a hoola hoop that they jumped through first & then the second time around they got brave & tried diving.
He also dove for rings & had a cannon ball contest. It wasn't the perfect pool day because the rain was coming off & on, but there wasn't any lightning so we were good.  After we got out we played the water balloon toss game with each other. That didn't work so well with this age so I changed it up & just said 'Get each other!" And it turned into a fun water balloon fight.

We played freeze dance, ate pizza & sang Happy Birthday to Gavin. And of course ate yummy cupcakes. These kids are darling & I'm so grateful that Gavin made such great friends at school.

It was so fun to watch all about Gavin's 5th birthday. I know it is a bit late but my computer crashed so I couldn't access blogs til now. Thanks for always posting all the milestones for me to see. It makes me feel like I was there.
