I have always been a big birthday person. I think they should be celebrated all week long doing fun things. But I must admit that this year was not the case. I just didn't really want to do much. Doug asked me if I wanted a party or get together with friends. But I just wanted to spend it with my family. Maybe that was due to all the birthday hooplah with the boys that got me out of the mood to par-tay, but none the less it was a quiet & fun day with the people I love. Or maybe it's just that I'm not thrilled to be in the last year of my twenties. Yes, that is more the reason I believe. :)
My friend Michele insisted on watching the boys so that Laura could take me out to lunch kid-free. Boy was that blissful! Eating & talking without children is sooo nice. It really was the best present for me to have a break. I'm so thankful for good friends & an awesome sister that treated me to lunch.
We love Red Robin
That night Doug wanted to take me out to dinner so as soon as Doug got home from school we celebrated with the boys by having cake first. Nothing beats dessert first in my book. Gavin was so cute about my birthday. About a week before when we were talking about it coming up he asked me what kind of party I wanted. I turned the question around & asked him what my party should be & he immediately replied, "A mermaid party!". That theme never changed & it's all he talked about all week long. So I told Doug that he better pull through with this so that we don't have a disappointed little boy on our hands. :) So as you can see Doug did pull through by getting an Ariel candle & plates for us to use. Gavin thought it was SOOO cool! I sure do feel like the princess in this house as I am surrounded by my boys. So it was a fitting theme after all. :)
In my family growing up we always had ice cream cakes on birthdays. Baskin Robins makes the BEST ones in my opinion. Anyhow, it has been years since I've had one & good ol Laura remembered a comment I made a while back when we drove by Baskin Robins. It was mint chocolate chip ice cream with chocolate cake. YUM!
My boys were so sweet & gave me this pretty copper diamond heart necklace. My boys are learning young that women love jewelry!
We left the boys with Laura & headed out on our date. I chose to eat at the PF Changs which is one of my favorites. We hadn't been there in forever either. After dinner we hit the mall so I could pick out my gift from Doug which was new running shoes. Yay! It was a fabulous day & I felt very loved by all my family & friends. So here's to the age that I will remain for the rest of my life! :)
