We arrived late on a Friday night. We pulled only our beds out of the truck as we were all tired & exhausted. At some point shortly after opening the truck door Doug said he saw a cat jump out of the truck. At first he didn't think much of it as maybe a neighborhood cat had just jumped in & then got scared off by him. It wasn't until we started unloading a few things when we saw all the cat hair & got whiffs of cat urine that we realized that cat was no Florida cat. It was one in fact one of our neighbors cats from Buffalo!!! That stupid thing must have sneaked in while we were loading up & we obviously didn't notice. I'm shocked that it made it all the way down here & didn't starve or overheat. I was FURIOUS! I am not a lover of cats. In fact, I hate them. I was just so irritated that my stuff was covered in cat hair. Yuck!
Anyhow, the next morning we got busy getting the truck unloaded. Our friends the Trockel's came over to help & we are so thankful to them for that. Doug's parents had to catch their flight that afternoon so we needed to get as much done as we could while we had the extra hands.
Life is pretty crazy when you're living amongst boxes & don't have things put away. I feel like it took a really long time to get things settled here in Davie, Florida. Having two small children doesn't really help the situation. I felt so bad for Gavin. He was such a good sport about it all. Liam just didn't have a clue what was going on which was great. Here are some pics of our first little while here.
First bath in the new house.
Eating rotisserie chicken because I still hadn't done the BIG grocery shopping. Liam didn't seem to mind one bit.
My sweet sleeping baby during one of his naps. This move really wore my kids out!
Liam is often found in this state as it is blasted HOT down here.
It had been over 2 weeks since I did any laundry & we were running out of underwear & clothes. So to the laundromat we went. I have never been to one before & was a little nervous on how the routine was supposed to go. Thankfully Doug has been before & helped his girl out. I must admit it was really nice being able to put all your loads in at the same time.
We had 5 washers going at once. Doug left to put the boys down for naps
while I finished up. I spent a total of 2 1/2 hours there. I was ready
to be done. I'm so grateful to have my own washer & dryer in my
house. It's a lot of work taking it to the laundromat.
One of many trips to Home Depot
Like I mentioned, my boys were exhausted. Gavin pretty much fell asleep every time we got in the car. I love how his leg is propped up.
We had to make ourselves stop every once in a while & go do something fun. The park down the street & perfect for Gavin & he loves it!
One morning Doug took Gavin to the lake in our neighborhood for some fishin!
Popcorn & a movie night
Gavin was SUPER excited about making popcorn.
We still didn't have our TV set up so thank goodness for the portable DVD player. Sadly, Gavin watched way too many movies during our move in process.
One Sunday we decided to take a drive to downtown Fort Lauderdale. It was a lot of fun seeing all the homes & boats along the canals. There are some ridiculous boats like the one below.
And once again, Gavin couldn't stay awake. So funny!
We have been going swimming in the evening after dinner & it is a huge hit every time. I love our pool! It's warm, huge & never crowded. My boys sure are little fish!
Gavin giving Liam a ride. Even though it looks like Liam is choking Gavin. :)
For Memorial Day we went to Dania Beach with our friends the Trockel's. We got there pretty early & it was perfect. By the time we left, it was super crowded. I guess everyone else had the same idea.
My little Gilligan
Gavin & Eliza Wren
That night we went to the movies & saw the Avengers. Gavin loved it! I wasn't too sure how he'd handle such a grown up film, but after reading the reviews there really wasn't anything inappropriate to be worried about. His favorite was for sure the Hulk or in his terms, "The BIG GREEN MAN"! It was a fun holiday indeed.
Later that week my sister Laura moved down here as well. My parents are leaving on a mission & sold their home. (Later on that) Since all of our siblings live outside of Utah she decided to join us down here in Florida for a few years. She also bought a home in Rexmere & actually lives kiddy corner to our backyard. My dad came with her to help with the move & it was a lot of fun spending time with him. It was a lot of work getting us both moved in & settled. So we made sure to do something fun.
We drove to the Everglades. We were able to catch a gator show & that was way cool!
These guys are crazy! Gavin goes around now all the time imitating these guys & the different holds they did on the gators. Nuts!
Now all the boxes are gone & everything has a place. I'm sure I'll be moving things around & organizing some more as time goes by, but for now all is well.
