Our Family

The Shaw Family

Doug & I were married on October 6, 2005 in the Salt Lake Temple. We are currently living in the Dallas, Texas area. We have two sons, Gavin Douglas born September 18, 2009 & Liam Robert born October 14, 2011. We are so happy to be a family of four & love our boys so much! It is always one adventure after another in this house.

Random Happenings

This post is just some of the random happenings of our life as of late.
One Saturday afternoon we decided to go swimming at the YMCA. This was Liam's first time ever being in a pool. He really liked the water a lot! Gavin was quite the little fish. He LOVED swimming! He did really well using the flotation dumbells & belted floatie things. He could have lasted there all day long. It was fun having the Evans' come along. Travis use to teach swim lessons so it was fun watching the inner coach come out in him with the boys. :)

There are four ladies in our ward that are all having babies real soon & close together. So we had a joint baby sprinkle to honor them in motherhood. They all have other children so they really weren't in 'need' of anything, but we decided that no matter how many kids you have, you always NEED diapers. I found this idea on Pinterest & am so happy that I finally had reason to make one (or 4!)

I made all of the receiving blankets & then after collecting a butt load (no pun intended) of diapers, I assembled them into stork bundles. Seriously, SO CUTE!!! I just love how they turned out.

These two pictures were taken by my friend Kristin. I seriously need want a nice camera SO bad!! They really make such a huge difference in the quality of photos. Sigh.

I was giving Doug a trim & he decided he wanted some hilights so after Gavin saw the whole process he decided that he too needed some hilights like daddy. I've thought about this a lot being a hair stylist that I would NOT let my kids color their hair for a long time. Well being that this was the first time he even showed interest in having it done, I kind of thought to myself, how bad could a few highlights be? Some may judge & judge all you like, but it was so fun watching him get so excited over the whole process. They are extremely subtle & in fact, no one has even noticed or asked about it. I think I will still stick to my above remark & not let my kids do anything drastic til they are a lot older.

I just LOVE this face that he makes. Can you say CHEESE?!?!

One afternoon we were lucky & got to have little Brody come over while his mom & big brother were registering for school. Brody is only 6 weeks older than Liam. It has been so fun watching these two grow. I'm sad that they won't get to know each other the older they get. :( Our families have quite a bit in common. Both husbands are named Doug. Both wives are hair stylists. We both have two boys that are both the same ages, etc. I could probably think of more, but oh well. The Messicks just live a street over & have been so fun getting to know.

One day we decided to take Daddy out to lunch. It was a lot of fun spending time as a family at good ol' Wegmans during the day.

I love having a 2.5 year old (most of the time). He is always using his imagination & I love it when I fall upon him acting stuff out. He was putting the colander on his head & saying that he was Super Grover from Sesame Street. :) How cute is that? But when I finally grabbed my phone to snap a shot he had already turned into a Super Cowboy riding his horse. (pictured below) He just kept saying, "Giddy up!", "Yee-ha!", "Neigh, neigh!".

You're right! I didn't even notice Gavin's new hair color! :) Now I'll be looking real close, haha!

Thanks for letting us come swimming with you! It was a fun Saturday afternoon activity.

I can't believe I didn't notice Gavin's hair! Thats so cute he wanted a little color as well :) I think that is JUST FINE! You're a hair stylist for heavens sakes! You have the right to do whatever you want to your kids hair! Nobody says "Doug shouldn't clean Gavin's teeth until he's a teenager" Its your profession! I say color all you want lady! I am sad to as well that you guys are moving away this year :( The boys would have had alot of fun playing together if you were staying here for a few more years! I bet you wish that you were . .
