Atlantis Getaway

We've been looking forward to this trip for a LOOOONG time. When Doug found out that he was going to be able to present his research down at the Atlantis in the Bahamas he decided it would be a great idea to let me tag along. Uh....heck yes that's great idea! I didn't even bat an eye when he suggested it. :) And it just happened to be the week of our anniversary so it worked out perfect. We killed a lot of birds with that one stone; research, anniversary & graduation. We were so thankful that Doug's parents were willing & able to make the trip out to watch our boys. It's so nice having family stay with them.

So Wednesday the 8th we headed to the airport for a quick flight to the Bahamas.
There is something so nice about flying without your children. It's kind of a liberating feeling really. :) Is that so bad of me to say? Nah.
We made it to the resort after a long shuttle ride from the airport. Those drivers are crazy I tell ya. We stayed in the Coral Towers & our room was very nice. We'd heard from our friends that the food pricing for lunches & snacks was ridiculous. So we took a taxi into town to hit up the grocery store so we could stock our little fridge.
After getting back we went to dinner with Glenn & Alissa Kreiger & their kids at Johnny Rockets. Afterwards we walked around the little square & hit up the candy store. I just love the name of it.

The boys would have been in high heaven. It's funny how you go on vacation kidless & then you spend most of the time saying, "Oh, the kids would have loved this." or "Wouldn't the boys have had so much fun doing this?".

After we got our load of sugar we walked around the resort exploring everything. They had some really cool aquariums.

Check out that HUGE grouper? Seriously, it looked fake. But no that sucker is real. Yuck.

Not really sure what this is suppose to be. But being some helmet that you could stand under, Doug had to give it a go. He said after that it reeked inside. Pee eww!

The next morning Doug didn't have to be in lectures until the afternoon. So we took advantage of having time together & hit up the pools & water slides.

It was so nice being able to just plant ourselves down on some lounge chairs & do whatever we wanted. Doug even picked up a book. :) We had a blast going on all the slides. A really cool one was a tube ride where at the end you come out into a glass tunnel where you're surrounded by swimming sharks!

From that afternoon onto every morning following I was by myself. I can't really complain though because it was bliss. I got to lay out all day, read my book & people watch. Oh, and don't forget munch on our pb&j sandwiches that we had everyday. Haha! I even dosed off a couple times too. Life was pretty darn sweet.

I couldn't resist snapping all these selfies to document my glorious hours of pure bliss.
Love this one with the suns rays coming through.

Doug always met up with me after his lectures/meetings. One afternoon we have the snorkeling a go. It wasn't that great & we didn't see much. But still fun doing something together.

One time he came straight to the pool & he had forgot his flip flops. On our walk back the ground was too hot to go barefoot. I couldn't resist taking a picture of this stud muffin of mine. :)

More aquarium shots.

These cute turtles were right outside our hotel room.

Grabbed dinner & walked around the marina checking out all the fancy million dollar yachts.

The funny thing is, that we can't even say, "One day". We will never own one of these & that's ok really. But it sure is fun to dream.

Grabbing some Ben & Jerry's before calling it a night.

Our last evening there we decided to have it be our fancy night to celebrate our anniversary. We made reservations at the Italian restaurant which was really good.
After dinner when we were walking out & there was a sign with some music group on it advertising a concert. It was that night & in fact only moments out. So we decided why not. They were some country pop group of two sisters & their mom debuting in the United States. They had some reality show that they were taping & this was for their final episode. They were actually pretty good & we had a great time.

I just love this man of mine! We had such a fabulous getaway together. I think I could get use to celebrating our anniversaries like this. Destination style.

Awe - nothing like a little get-away from the kids to remember who you are!
What an awesome couple you two are. Looks like you had a great time relaxing and enjoying your time together.
