The Shaw Family

Doug & I were married on October 6, 2005 in the Salt Lake Temple. We are currently living in the Dallas, Texas area. We have two sons, Gavin Douglas born September 18, 2009 & Liam Robert born October 14, 2011. We are so happy to be a family of four & love our boys so much! It is always one adventure after another in this house.

Playing Catch Up

So I have been really bad about posting some of our day to day activities. It is so easy to post about parties, holidays, etc. But it is those out of the blue moments or daily things that happen that I want to remember. So this post may seem a little random & out of order for when they occurred, but I just can't not post about them.

Okay so this goes back to our summer visit in Utah. I just barely got these pictures from my sister & I just couldn't resist posting them. Gavin loved playing in Grandma Madsen's cupboards! We figured he couldn't do much harm in the cereal cupboard because everything is in seal tight containers.

Boy were we wrong! Yep, you're right. That is sugar dumped all over the floor! That stuff is a beast to clean up too.

His face says it all. "What ma?!"
{He looks so young in these pics & they were only a few months ago. Crazy how fast they change!}

In September I had been searching for a console/hutch type piece to go under our tv. I finally found one on craigslist, but Doug didn't seem to sold. Well I went away for a Relief Society retreat & upon arriving home I saw it in our garage. I love my husband! As for most things we get on craigslist or the curb, they need a little TLC. As always, I forgot to get a pic of what it actually looked like.
The previous owners had coated it with this awful oily stain. Yuck! So we had to sand it all off. Yay for sanding. Not!

Thankfully we had a little helper!

Gavin was obsessed with the sander! He did a pretty good job too. I love my boys!

And here is the finished result:
A beautiful console!

I think it turned out just perfect! It's amazing what a little paint can do to a piece of furniture. We painted it cream & applied a black glaze.

Just a happy boy getting fed!

I love this picture! Doug put Gavin in my rain boots & we both couldn't stop laughing! He looked so funny. And what is with that cheesier of a grin!?!

Gavin has been really getting into watching TV & his little movies. I love it because I can actually hop in the shower & get ready while he is being entertained. He loves his Baby Signing Time & is getting quite a few of the signs down. He knows 'more', 'food', 'milk' & 'socks'. As you can see from the picture above, he is always pulling his socks off!

We have a babysitting swap group every Friday night. It is wonderful! On one of the Fridays when it was our turn to watch all the kids & after all had been picked up except Collin we decided to throw the boys into the tub. They had a blast bathing together! Look at those cute bums! Best Buds for life!

Just a little wrestling one evening after Doug got home from school. Gavin gets so excited to see his daddy! It really is so sweet to see them interact & play together.

Below is a video of Gavin taking some of his first steps. This was back in mid October. He had already been taking steps, but I'm just a bad parent & never captured it on film.

He is now walking everywhere, but is still very cautious & a little wobbly.

Caught eating Halloween candy! Naughty little boys. :) Steph & I were downstairs & they boys got really quiet. A movie was on so our first thought was they were just getting into the show. Well when we came upstairs we couldn't see them. I knew they had to be in there because the gate was up. There was no way they could have escaped. Well once we actually got into the room, this is where we found them. Under the table, candy dumped out of the pumpkin, candy in hand & mouth sucking & chewing away at the attempt of actually getting the candy out of their wrappers. I about died! Probably one of the funniest things yet! I have a feeling this is only the beginning with these two in kahoots with each other! :)

Playing in the fall leaves! He loves to help mom & dad work in the yard.

I just love our little Gavin to pieces & am so glad I get to be home with him to see all of his learnings & growths & discoveries. He sure is a busy little boy, but so fun & happy!

looks super fantastic.
all that sanding. . . PAIN in the butt!
what we do when we HAVE to be cheap, huh? ;)
(actually. . . i would probably do it anyway!)

i like the "look" of older furniture. . . more personality!
because let's face it. . . i am the queen of collecting unwanted crap!

Thanks for posting all the random pics and vids. You really do see how much he's changing a month at a time. I love the pic of them busted with the candy!

Thanks for all the updates. Isn't it amazing what two little boys can get into! Never a dull moment with a toddler. I'd forgotten the sugar incident until I saw the pics. That was a big surprise!!

You have such a cute family! Gavin and Doug are really cute together. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, Megan. What a horrible thing for her husband, family and friends to go through. With my grandma just passing, I know how hard it must be, but I hope you all are doing ok. Love ya.
