Doug's grandpa passed away & today was his funeral. We were really sad that we could not be there & be with family & loved ones in this difficult time. It is moments like this that make it very hard to be away. Grandpa had been dealing with diabetes for many years and over the last year or so, it was getting really painful & time consuming. He was on dialysis like 3 times a week. He began growing weaker & weaker the past few months & that is when he decided to stop treatment. He knew it awas his time & wanted to prepare his family for what to come. Grandpa passed away on Friday. He was a wonderful man who's life was filled with love & kindness. Doug's mom forwarded us an outline of the funeral with some details about his life. "Grandpa was a teacher, builder, creator, author, and leader in the community and at home. He was a hunter, farmer, gardener and repairman (he could fix anything). He was a sportsman---fishing (tying his own flies), basketball, baseball, football, skiing, tennis, golf---; an active and passive participant. He enjoyed camping, family gatherings, and photography. He enjoyed music, mechanics, world travel, Life-long learning, and activities with friends from all walks of life." It was great to read about him & to see how loved he was by his children, grandchildren, & friends.
I never really got the chance to know Grandpa Howell, but he was such a sweet man. Whenever I was around him, he would blow me a kiss! :) Just like in this picture.
Grandpa, we love you so much & are going to miss you! You will always be in our hearts & memories. Thank you for your great example!

My thoughts and prayers are with you..I'm so so sorry for your loss...I love you both!
It isn't easy to say goodbye to loved ones even though we know they are going home to their Father in Heaven and will be free from pain and suffering. I think we are sad cause we won't see them for a while. Thank goodness for the comfort that comes through the Holy Ghost. May he be with you Doug, Rachel and all your family at this time.
Love, Mom
